Evenings Out

Noir lighting, cheap sets, action!

Billions and billions of stars make up our galaxy. Orbiting any of those stars might be planets very much like our own Earth, capable of supporting a rich panoply of life forms.

Some might be large, elephantine, others minute, perhaps even microscopic. Some might be solitary predators, others communal herbivores.

Most terrifying, however, is the thought that, somewhere out in the darkest depths of the cosmos, there might be . . .

[Insert dramatic thunderclap here]

 . . . codependent lesbian space aliens!

The darling of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival is finally making its way to northeast Ohio, with a one-night showing at the Capitol Theater on West 65th Street on June 26 at 8:45 pm. The screening is presented by the Cleveland Institute of Arts Cinematheque, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session with director Madeleine Olnek via Skype, which one can only assume is some space-age technology beyond the reach of normal humans.

Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same made a monumental splash at last years Sundance. But perhaps a film about a trio of lesbian visitors from another planet trying to find love on Earth while being hunted by government agents was a little too trippy for mainstream audiences. Certainly, if Michael Bay stepped in and added about a thousand pointless explosions and some truly nauseating 3D, it would probably be playing the multiplexes.

Homage to 1950s B movies, quirky comedy, lesbian love story and cutting-edge indie film all in one package, it is not to be missed! For advance tickets, go to www.clevelandcinemas.com.
